HoT: What inspires you?
HH: I am inspired by the people I'm surrounded by. I'm inspired by the environment I find myself in. I'm also very inspired by dreams. The principle of collective consciousness fascinates me as I believe it applies so much in our society. Look here in the arts community of New York- it's the idea of the Hive Mind. Once someone puts something into the world, the community picks up on it and reacts. In this way, our ideas are always evolving and life is a shared experience. In an even more extreme way, this applies to things we may have not even created yet, or things we have dreamed! That means that humans are linked by a psychic thread so to speak. This notion has always influenced my subject matter.
HoT: What do you do and what do you love about what you do?
HH: I'm into my 4th year working as a model in New York. I've always enjoyed the performative aspect. For me, modeling and acting are not mutually exclusive, and I think the most transcendent models succeed when they have a natural predisposition for both.
HoT: It's NYC, everyone has something they do on the side that they are passionate about. What is that for you?
HH: In addition to fashion, I'm also very much interested in art. I draw and paint whenever possible. After high school, I studied at The Maryland Institute College of Art for a year, before making the leap to move to New York to pursue a career in modeling. I try to take in the arts as much as I can- reading, writing, watching movies, seeking out new music, etc.
HoT: What is your favorite piece from the Paradise collection and why?
HH: My favorite piece from the Paradise Collection is the Bo Choker in Labradorite. I can't get enough of it. It's sexy and completely versatile. The labradorite beads have a subtle iridescence which is lovely and gives another dimension to the necklace. I'm looking forward to wearing it in the warmer months with a tank top to show it off!
HoT: What's your favorite brunch spot in the New York City area?
HH: I can be a homebody during weekends so when I go out to brunch it's almost always within walking distance of my apartment. I call the Clinton Hill/Fort Greene neighborhood home and it just so happens that there's a ton of restaurants around here. I love Pillow Cafe on Myrtle and Grand ave. for its extensive bar that offers house cocktails as well as coffee, smoothies and shakes. They have delicious ginger honey shake that I always get.
I also recommend Speedy Romeo on Classon and Greene ave. They have an absolutely unmatched reputation for creative pizzas in Brooklyn and offer several brunch pizzas with toppings like lox, ham, farm eggs and even nutella! (They're opening a second location on the Lower East Side this spring!)
HoT: Explain your style in 3 words.
HH: Individual, inspired, irreverent.
